দীর্ঘ ৩৪ বছর দায়িত্ব পালনের পর রাজকীয়ভাবে বিদায় নিয়েছেন একজন মসজিদের ইমাম। বিদায়বেলায় ঘোড়ার গাড়িতে চড়িয়ে মোটর শোভাযাত্রা সহকারে তাঁকে পৌঁছে দেওয়া হয়েছে নিজ বাড়িতে। তাঁর হাতে তুলে দেওয়া হয়েছে পেনশন হিসেবে নয় লাখ টাকা। ব্যতিক্রমী এমন ঘটনার সাক্ষী হয়েছেন টাঙ্গাইল জেলার মির্জাপুর উপজেলার নতুন কহেলা গ্রামের বাসিন্দারা।
সৌভাগ্যবান এই ইমামের নাম মাওলানা মোহাম্মদ শাহজাহান। রাজধানী ঢাকার লালবাগের একটি স্বনামধন্য মাদ্রাসা থেকে মাওলানা পাশ করার পর ১৯৯১ সালে নতুন কহেলা জামে মসজিদে মাত্র ৬০০ টাকা বেতনে ইমাম ও খতিবের চাকুরি পান মাওলনা মোহাম্মদ শাহজাহান খান। কর্মজীবনের শেষ তার বেতন হয়েছিল ১৭ হাজার টাকা। তিনি ন্যায়, নিষ্ঠা, সততা ও আন্তরিকতার সঙ্গে সঙ্গে দীর্ঘ ৩৪ বছর দায়িত্ব পালন করেন।
কহেলা গ্রামের বাসিন্দা আবদুল হকিম জানান, আমাদের মসজিদের ইমাম মাওলানা মোহাম্মদ শাহজাহান এলাকার প্রায় দুই হাজারের বেশি নারী-পুরুষ ও শিশুদের কুরআন শিক্ষায় শিক্ষিত করেছেন । গ্রামবাসী ও মসজিদের পক্ষ থেকে ২০২৪ সালে তাকে সৌদি আরবে ওমরা হজ্বে পাঠানো হয়। গত ৩১ মার্চ ছিল তার শেষ কর্মদিবস। তাই মঙ্গলবার তাকে রাজকীয় সংবর্ধনার মাধ্যমে বিদায় জানানো হয়।
