বঙ্গোপসাগর থেকে ২১৪ জন মায়ানমারের বাস্তুচ্যুত নাগরিকসহ ‘এফভি কুলসুমা’ নামক একটি মাছ ধরার নৌকা আটক করেছে। বাংলাদেশ নৌবাহিনী জাহাজ ‘বানৌজা দুর্জয়’ সমুদ্রে টহলকালে তাদের আটক করে। প্রাথমিক জিজ্ঞাসাবাদে জানা যায়, তারা সকলেই মালয়েশিয়ায় অবৈধভাবে প্রবেশের উদ্দেশ্যে যাত্রা করে। আন্তঃবাহিনী জনসংযোগ পরিদপ্তরের (আইএসপিআর) এক সংবাদ বিজ্ঞপ্তিতে মঙ্গলবার (৮ এপ্রিল) এ তথ্য জানানো হয়।
এতে বলা হয় সেন্টমার্টিন্স থেকে ৪৪ নটিক্যাল মাইল দক্ষিণ-পশ্চিমে অবস্থানরত একটি মাছ ধরার নৌকার সন্দেহজনক গতিবিধি লক্ষ করে নৌবাহিনী জাহাজ ‘বানৌজা দুর্জয়’।
তাৎক্ষণিকভাবে নৌবাহিনী জাহাজ মাছ ধরার নৌকা ‘এফভি কুলসুমার নিকট পৌঁছায় এবং এর গতিপথ রোধ করে। এ সময়ে নৌকাটিতে তল্লাশি চালিয়ে ২১৪ জন যাত্রীকে আটক করা হয়। যাদের মধ্যে ১১৮ জন পুরুষ, ৬৮ জন নারী এবং ২৮ জন শিশু রয়েছে। আটকৃত ব্যক্তিদের সকলেই মায়ানমারের বাস্তুচ্যুত নাগরিক বলে জানা যায়।
সংবাদ বিজ্ঞপ্তিতে আরও জানানো হয় নৌকাটি ৮ এপ্রিল মধ্যরাত দুই ঘটিকায় কক্সবাজার জেলার টেকনাফ থানাধীন শাপলাপুর এলাকা থেকে মালয়েশিয়ার উদ্দেশ্যে যাত্রা করে। আইনানুগ ব্যবস্থা গ্রহণের লক্ষ্যে আটককৃত মাছ ধরার নৌকা ও মায়ানমারের বাস্তুচ্যুত নাগরিকদের বাংলাদেশ কোস্ট গার্ড স্টেশন সেন্টমার্টিন্স এর নিকট হস্তান্তর করা হয়।
উলেখ্য, নৌকাটি নূন্যতম জীবন রক্ষাকারী সরঞ্জাম, পর্যাপ্ত খাদ্য, পানি ও সুরক্ষা ব্যবস্থা ব্যতীত যাত্রা শুর করে যা গভীর সমুদ্রে মানবিক বিপর্যয় সৃষ্টি করতে পারতো। নৌবাহিনীর তাৎক্ষণিক ও কার্যকর পদক্ষেপে এ বিপর্যয় প্রতিহত করা সম্ভব হয়েছে। নৌবাহিনী দেশের জলসীমার নিরাপত্তা, সমদ্রপথে চোরাচালান রোধ, অবৈধ অনুপ্রবেশসহ যেকোনো অপরাধমূলক কার্যক্রম প্রতিরোধে অঙ্গীকারবদ্ধ।
