রাজধানীর ইন্টারকন্টিনেন্টাল হোটেলে বাংলাদেশ বিনিয়োগ সম্মেলনের ভেন্যু আজ বুধবার পরীক্ষামূলকভাবে স্টারলিংকের ইন্টারনেট-সেবা ব্যবহার করা হবে। সম্মেলনের সরাসরি সম্প্রচার করা হবে স্টারলিংকের ইন্টারনেটের মাধ্যমে। সম্মেলনে উপস্থিত অংশগ্রহণকারীও তা ব্যবহার করতে পারবে।
বাংলাদেশ বিনিয়োগ উন্নয়ন কর্তৃপক্ষের (বিডা) কাছ থেকে বিনিয়োগের নিবন্ধন নিয়েছে স্টারলিংক। গত ২৯ মার্চ এই নিবন্ধন দেওয়া হয়েছে। অবশ্য ইন্টারনেট-সেবা দিতে স্টারলিংককে বাংলাদেশ টেলিযোগাযোগ নিয়ন্ত্রণ কর্তৃপক্ষের (বিটিআরসি) কাছ থেকে লাইসেন্স নিতে হবে। ইতিমধ্যে তাদের লাইসেন্সের অনুমোদন দেওয়া হয়েছে।
এর আগে বিডার নির্বাহী চেয়ারম্যান চৌধুরী আশিক মাহমুদ হারুন স্টারলিংককে নিবন্ধন দেওয়ার কথা জানান। তিনি বলেন, আমরা তাদের (স্টারলিংক) ৯০ দিনের মধ্যে কার্যক্রম পরিচালনার যে প্রতিশ্রুতি দিয়েছি, তার পরিপ্রেক্ষিতেই ২৯ মার্চ স্টারলিংককে অনুমোদন দেওয়া হয়েছে।
দক্ষিণ এশিয়ায় চলতি বছর ভুটানে প্রথম স্টারলিংকের সেবা চালু হয়। বাংলাদেশ ছাড়া ভারতেও স্টারলিংকের সেবা চালুর কার্যক্রম এগোচ্ছে। সে দেশে ইতিমধ্যে দুটি প্রযুক্তিপ্রতিষ্ঠানের সঙ্গে স্টারলিংকের চুক্তি হয়েছে। প্রযুক্তি খাতের ব্যক্তিরা বলছেন, স্টারলিংক বাংলাদেশে এলে দুর্গম এলাকায় খুব সহজে উচ্চগতির ইন্টারনেট-সেবা পাওয়া যাবে।
