কক্সবাজার আন্তর্জাতিক বিমানবন্দরের যাত্রা শুরু জুলাইয়ে

আন্তর্জাতিক বিমানবন্দর হিসেবে কক্সবাজার বিমানবন্দরের যাত্রা শুরু হচ্ছে চলতি বছর জুলাই মাসে। সোমবার (২০ এপ্রিল) এক সমন্বয় সভায় বাংলাদেশ বেসামরিক বিমান চলাচল কর্তৃপক্ষ (বেবিচক) এর চেয়ারম্যান এয়ার ভাইস মার্শাল মো. মঞ্জুর কবীর ভূঁইয়া এ তথ্য জানিয়েছেন।
সভায় বিমান বাংলাদেশ এয়ারলাইনস, ইমিগ্রেশন পুলিশ, কাস্টমস কর্তৃপক্ষ ও এয়ারলাইন অপারেটর কমিটির প্রতিনিধিসহ গুরুত্বপূর্ণ স্টেকহোল্ডাররা উপস্থিত ছিলেন।
বৈঠক শেষে সিভিল এভিয়েশন অব বাংলাদেশ এর একজন ঊর্ধ্বতন কর্মকর্তা সাংবাদিকদের বলেন, বিমানবন্দর থেকে আন্তর্জাতিক রুট চালু করার জন্য বিমানকে ইতোমধ্যেই প্রস্তুতি নিতে নির্দেশ দেওয়া হয়েছে। সে অনুযায়ী আমরা জুলাই মাসে কক্সবাজার থেকে স্বল্প পাল্লার বিমানের মাধ্যমে আন্তর্জাতিক ফ্লাইট পরিচালনার জন্য সম্পূর্ণ প্রস্তুত থাকব।
বেবিচক কর্মকর্তারা জানিয়েছেন, আগামী জুলাইয়ের মধ্যে রানওয়ে সম্প্রসারণের কাজ শেষ হবে। এই রানওয়ের ১ হাজার ৭০০ ফুট নির্মাণ হচ্ছে সমুদ্রের ওপর। সম্প্রসারণের পর রানওয়ের দৈর্ঘ্য হবে ১০ হাজার ৭০০ ফুট বা ৩.২৬ কিলোমিটার। তৈরির পর এটিই হবে দেশের সবচেয়ে বড় রানওয়ে। আপাতত বিমানবন্দরটির বর্তমান টার্মিনাল ভবন থেকেই আন্তর্জাতিক ফ্লাইটগুলো পরিচালিত হবে। নতুন আন্তর্জাতিক টার্মিনালটির নির্মাণকাজ শেষ হওয়ার পর এখান থেকে বড় আকারের উড়োজাহাজগুলো পরিচালিত হবে।
প্রধান উপদেষ্টা ড. মুহাম্মদ ইউনূস গত শুক্রবার নির্মাণাধীন বিমানবন্দর প্রকল্পের অগ্রগতি পরিদর্শন করেন।
কক্সবাজারকে ইন্দোনেশিয়ার বালি দ্বীপের মতো একটি শীর্ষস্থানীয় আন্তর্জাতিক পর্যটনকেন্দ্র হিসেবে গড়ে তোলা সরকারের দীর্ঘমেয়াদি লক্ষ্য। আন্তর্জাতিক বিমানবন্দর চালু হলে কক্সবাজার আঞ্চলিক পর্যটনের হাব হিসেবে প্রতিষ্ঠিত হবে বলে মনে করেন বাংলাদেশ পর্যটন বোর্ডের (বিটিবি) কর্মকর্তারা।
