চট্টগ্রাম সিটি কর্পেোরেশনের মেয়র ডা. শাহাদাত হোসেন বলেছেন, আধুনিক যন্ত্রপাতির ব্যবহার ও নির্ভুল পরীক্ষার মাধ্যমে নিরাপদ খাদ্য নিশ্চিত করতে হবে। মঙ্গলবার দুপুরে নগরীর মুরাদপুরের বিবিরহাট এলাকায় অবস্থিত চট্টগ্রাম সিটি কর্পোরেশনের আওতাধীন ফুড ল্যাবরেটরি পরিদর্শনকালে তিনি একথা বলেন।
পরিদর্শনকালে মেয়র ল্যাবের কার্যক্রম, যন্ত্রপাতির কার্যক্ষমতা, স্যাম্পল সংরক্ষণ ও পরীক্ষার প্রক্রিয়া বিস্তারিতভাবে পর্যালোচনা করেন। তিনি ল্যাব কর্মকর্তাদের কাছ থেকে বিভিন্ন বিভাগের কার্যক্রম, মেশিন ব্যবহারের অবস্থা, সংরক্ষণ ব্যবস্থাপনা ও বিদ্যুৎ বিলসহ অন্যান্য পরিচালনাগত বিষয় সম্পর্কে খোঁজখবর নেন।
এ সময় তিনি বলেন, এই ল্যাবের মাধ্যমে চট্টগ্রাম নগরবাসীর খাদ্যনিরাপত্তা নিশ্চিত করা সম্ভব। আধুনিক যন্ত্রপাতি থাকা সত্ত্বেও এর পূর্ণ সক্ষমতায় ব্যবহার এখনো নিশ্চিত করা যায়নি। ফরমালিনসহ ক্ষতিকর উপাদান শনাক্তে এই ল্যাবে নিয়মিত পরীক্ষা চালু রাখা প্রয়োজন।
তিনি আরও বলেন, চট্টগ্রাম সিটি কর্পোরেশনের ফুড ল্যাব যদি সঠিকভাবে পরিচালিত হয়, তবে এটি রাজস্ব আয়ের একটি বড় উৎসে পরিণত হবে। এজন্য ল্যাবের সরঞ্জামগুলো নিয়মিত রক্ষণাবেক্ষণ ও সফটওয়্যার ব্যবস্থাপনা নিশ্চিত করতে হবে।
ল্যাবের কর্মকর্তা কর্মচারীদের উদ্দেশে মেয়র নির্দেশ দেন, যন্ত্রপাতি ও কেমিক্যাল ব্যবহারের মেয়াদ যাচাই করতে হবে এবং পুরনো বা মেয়াদোত্তীর্ণ উপকরণ দ্রুত অপসারণ করতে হবে। তিনি ল্যাবের পূর্ণাঙ্গ তালিকা ও ইনভেন্টরি হালনাগাদ রাখার নির্দেশও দেন।
মেয়র আরও জানান, খুব শিগগিরই ফুড ল্যাবটিকে ঢেলে সাজিয়ে আনুষ্ঠানিকভাবে উদ্বোধন করা হবে এবং খাদ্য পরীক্ষার জন্য উন্মুক্ত করা হবে।
