প্রধান উপদেষ্টা অধ্যাপক ড. মুহাম্মদ ইউনূসের নাম রয়েছে ‘নেতা’ ক্যাটাগরিতে। এই একই তালিকায় রয়েছেন যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের প্রেসিডেন্ট ডোনাল্ড ট্রাম্প, যুক্তরাজ্যের প্রধানমন্ত্রী কেয়ার স্টারমার, মেক্সিকোর প্রেসিডেন্ট ক্লাউডিয়া সেইনবোম এবং বিশ্বের সর্বোচ্চ ধনী ব্যক্তি ইলন মাস্কের নাম।
প্রভাবশালী ব্যক্তির তালিকায় স্থান পাওয়া অধ্যাপক ড. মুহাম্মদ ইউনূসকে নিয়ে টাইম ম্যাগাজিনকে যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের সাবেক ফার্স্ট লেডি হিলারি ক্লিনটন বলেছেন, ‘ছাত্রদের নেতৃত্বাধীন অভ্যুত্থানে গত বছর বাংলাদেশের স্বৈরশাসক প্রধানমন্ত্রী ক্ষমতাচ্যুত হওয়ার পর, একজন সুপরিচিত নেতা, নোবেলজয়ী মুহাম্মদ ইউনূস দেশকে গণতন্ত্রের দিকে নেতৃত্ব দিতে এগিয়ে আসেন।’
তিনি বলেন, ‘কয়েক দশক আগে ক্ষুদ্র ঋণের মাধ্যমে প্রান্তিক জনগোষ্ঠীকে ক্ষমতায়ন করতে ইউনূস বাংলাদেশে গ্রামীণ ব্যাংক প্রতিষ্ঠা করেন। যা কয়েক লাখ মানুষকে নিজস্ব ব্যবসা শুরু, তাদের পরিবারকে টিকিয়ে রাখতে এবং তাদের মর্যাদা পুনরুদ্ধার করতে সহায়তা করেছে। এই ক্ষুদ্র ঋণের সুবিধা নেওয়া ৯৭ শতাংশই নারী।’
এরপর ড. ইউনূসের সঙ্গে প্রথম সাক্ষাৎ ও তাঁর সঙ্গে কাজ করা নিয়ে স্মৃতিচারণ করেন হিলারি ক্লিনটন। তিনি বলেন, ‘আমি ড. ইউনূসের সঙ্গে প্রথম দেখা করি যখন তিনি তাঁর ক্ষুদ্র ঋণের মতো একই রকম প্রোগ্রাম চালু করতে তৎকালীন গভর্নর বিল ক্লিনটন (সাবেক প্রেসিডেন্ট) এবং আমাকে সহায়তা করতে আরকানসাসে আসেন। এরপর থেকে আমি বিশ্বের যেখানেই গেছি সেখানেই তাঁর কাজের অসাধারণ প্রভাব দেখেছি।’
