বঙ্গোপসাগরের কুতুবদিয়া-মগনামার সাড়ে পাঁচ কিলোমিটারের চ্যানেল পাড়ি দিলেন ১৫ জনের একটি সাঁতারু দল। শনিবার (১২ এপ্রিল) তাঁরা এই চ্যানেল পাড়ি দেন। বাংলাদেশ ওপেন ওয়াটার সুইমিং এই আয়োজন করে।
সাতারে অংশগ্রহণকারীরা হলেন- চাঁদপুরের মো. মাহমুদুল হাসান, বগুড়ার জাহেদুল ইসলাম জাহিদ, রাজশাহীর এস এম শাহরিয়ার মাহমুদ, ঢাকার শাহনেওয়াজ বাবু, কক্সবাজারের পেকুয়া উপজেলার মো. আবদুল মতিন, হবিগঞ্জের আলী রওনক সৌরভ, পাবনার জামিল হাসান, ঢাকার শহিদুল্লাহ প্রান্তিক, নেত্রকোনার হাবিবুর রহমান, বরগুনার সাইফুল ইসলাম রাসেল, শরিয়তপুরের জিহাদ হোসাইন, বরিশালের মো. শরিফ ফয়সাল, ঢাকার নাসির আহমের সৌরভ, দিনাজপুরের শাখাওয়াত হোসাইন সাকিব ও চট্টগ্রামের মো. ফয়সাল জিয়া।
শনিবার দুপুর পৌনে ১২টার দিকে দেশের কক্সবাজারের পেকুয়া উপজেলার মগনামা লঞ্চঘাটের উত্তর পাশ থেকে এই সাঁতার অভিযান শুরু করেন। সাতারুদের নিরাপত্তা ও উদ্ধার কাজের জন্য ৭টি ইঞ্জিন চালিত বোট প্রস্তুত রাখা হয়।
প্রতিযোগিতায় এক ঘণ্টা ১০ মিনিটে চ্যানেলের ওপারের কুতুবদিয়া জেটি ঘাঁটে পৌঁছেন ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের ছাত্র সাইফুল ইসলাম রাসেল। তার বাড়ি বরগুনা জেলায়। ২০২১ সালে টেকনাফ-সেন্টমার্টিন ‘বাংলা চ্যানেল’ পাড়ি দিয়ে প্রতিযোগিতায় প্রথম হয়েছিলেন তিনি।
